New Here? Welcome!

New Here? Welcome!

We would love to see you

Every one of us was new here once! And we stayed because we experienced the radical hospitality that Cresskill Congregational is known for.  We'd love to show you our welcoming spirit and warmth!

If nobody has told you today, you are loved!

Frequently Asked Questions

I'd like to come, but I'd like to have a contact when I arrive

Contact Pastor Kendall at pastor@cresskillucc.org or call him at 201-568-0608.
He will match you with a friendly greeter to meet you and get you settled in.

What time do services begin?
Sunday Services begin at 10:00 am.

How should I dress?

We really really don't care, though clean and neat is nice and respectful. Anything goes, from a jacket and tie, to jeans and sneakers.

How long does the service last?

About an hour.
Immediately after,  we gather casually at Coffee Hour to mingle and meet--and eat!  We hope you'll stay for that.

Where should I park?

There is a rear lot that fills up quickly.  Free parking is also available on the street.

What type of service should I expect?

It's a traditional service, but with a more laid back, contemporary feel.

Is the church welcoming to LGBTQ and other communities?

Absolutely! No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you belong with us! Open and affirming means we never judge, and we openly welcome EVERYONE

Should I bring anything?

Just yourself! If you'd like, on the third Sunday of every month, we support Cresskill Cares food pantry by bringing in groceries to donate.

Where are the bathrooms?

Throughout the building, upstairs and in the lower level. The gender neutral/accessible restroom is easily accessible from the church on the first floor.

What if I arrive late?

The greeter of the day will meet you and quietly help get you settled.

Is Sunday School required, like CCD?

No, there are no requirements. We have a curriculum that follows along with the sermons and teaches our children about a loving God and a Loving Jesus.  It is set up so that any child can join at any time.   Attendance is encouraged, but never required.

Parents are welcome to attend Sunday School with their children, or the Pastor and Christian Education folks would love to have a conversation about our teachings.

Do we need to register for Sunday School?

Nope, just show up! We're set up to welcome any child, any age to our low-key, friendly group.

Can my kids stay with me for the service?

Absolutely!

Do you have accommodations for those with special needs?

Yes! Besides our wheelchair ramp and handicapped parking, we also have individual listening devices, live captioning, and neuro-divergent practices.

Hearing impairment:  We have instructions on how to turn your smartphone into a closed-captioning device. Designated pews have phone holders so you can view the captioning throughout the service.

Neurodivergency:  We provide noise-cancelling headphones and fidget devices

ADHD:  Take a break in our Zen Den.  Move around while tuning in to our service on our computer setup.

Is this a safe space for those returning to faith after a long time?

Absolutely! We never judge and don't ask (though we're always available to listen).   We are just so happy you're here!

Are there opportunities for meeting others and getting involved?

That's what we are all about (though service is not at all required).  We are small but mighty, providing substantial community service to a variety of groups you don't often see being supported, including LGBTQ youth, migrant workers, and those with food needs.

We also offer opportunities internally, such as  in our vibrant music ministry, deacons, moms support group, White Elephant, fundraising and Christian education.

Church groups include bible study, women's group, sojourners, and book group.

Do you offer childcare during services?

Most children leave services at 1015 to attend Sunday School, but very little ones might benefit from our Virla Room, where parents can watch services on closed circuit while their babies and toddlers play.
