The start of any great journey of faith begins with the Bible.
The 66 books of the Bible were written on 3 continents, in 3 languages, by 40 different people over a period of 1600 years, on the most controversial subjects, by authors whose education and background varied greatly (kings, shepherds, scientists, attorneys, a tax collector, an army general, fishermen, priests, and a physician).
With estimated total sales of over 5 billion copies, the Bible is widely considered to be the best-selling book of all time. It has estimated annual sales of approximately 100 million copies, and has been a major influence on literature and history, especially in the West. With a book so incredibly popular for the many years since it’s been around, how wonderful it is to read and study it.
That said, the Bible is a collection of stories of how men and women interpreted their faith. For progressive Christians, the Bible points us to God. It is full of grand stories that tell of Jesus and God’s love for us. It is also a book with challenging ideas and stories of faith. As a faith community, we are called to read, study, and interpret the texts together. So this page seeks to provide you with a portion of that expectation. Here, you’ll find the resources that can help begin your journey into studying a book that is itself a collection of the most influential books in human history.
